Blenheim supports local entrepreneurs

The 2019 Start Up Competition Finalists Outside Blenheim Palace

Blenheim Palace is once again inviting entrepreneurs and new businesses to take part in a start-up scheme aimed at boosting their chances of success.

Working with local start-up mentors and entrepreneurs, the Oxfordshire estate has put together its own programme designed to support locally-based firms.

The competition is open to any business, which is less than two years old or has fewer than five employees, is based within 20 miles of Blenheim, and can provide something which could be stocked in their shops or cafes.

Applications will need to be submitted by May 7 and the successful candidates will be notified by May 21. They will then have the opportunity to pitch their ideas to Blenheim’s senior management team over the summer.

After undergoing presentation training, they will take part in a final pitch on June 24 when the winning applicant will be selected and awarded with a contract to supply their products to the Estate’s retail or catering outlets. In addition to the contract, the winner will also receive ongoing tips and advice from expert  business mentors along with members of the Blenheim management team.

“Due to Covid-19, we were unable to run the competition in 2020 but we remain committed to providing start-up businesses with support and a busy marketplace to showcase their products,” said Blenheim CEO Dominic Hare.“Now more than ever, we must all look to work together and help each other to succeed and we are excited to start receiving this year’s applications.“

“As we all look forward to fully coming out of lockdown and re-opening our businesses this scheme provides a real opportunity for local start-ups and entrepreneurs to take the next step in creating thriving new companies,” he added.

In 2019 the competition attracted more than 50 entrants of which eight went through to the final pitching process. Wild & Fine, a Shipston-on-Stour based jeweller whose work is inspired by the natural world, was judged the overall winner and received a contract to supply their products to the Oxfordshire Estate’s retail outlets. As part of its strategic goals Blenheim has committed to trebling its economic contribution to the local community within 10 years.
