In a bid to support local organisations and businesses Bicester Town Council has launched its first-ever virtual advent calendar.

The move is designed to raise the Christmas mood, promote local groups and projects, and support local businesses whilst keeping residents safe.

Each day until December 25 a new window will open, via the council’s YouTube, website and Facebook page, to reveal a festive message, video or an incentive.

Throughout the 25 days in the lead-up to Christmas Day, residents will get a chance to find out about charities, clubs, groups and businesses that operate in and around Bicester.

Some of the windows will reveal special offers for a particular day, while others will link to a video showcasing that organisations’ work. And on Christmas Day there will be a special festive message from Bicester’s Mayor Cllr Jason Slaymaker.

Meanwhile, shoppers will be delighted that as the country moves out of its second lockdown Bicester town centre has been lit up with festive lights.

Mayor Cllr Slaymaker said: “We already knew this Christmas was going to be very different from previous years, so as a council we wanted to do something that would bring some festive cheer, as well as support local business, charities and groups.

“This year we have all got used to holding meetings online and communicating with family and friends via online chat platforms, so the idea of the virtual advent calendar was born.

“I have been given a sneak preview and I think this project is going to be amazing – watch out for some special offers that will be available for just one day.

“Please do tune in every morning as this will be a great way to find out more about the town, its community and get into the festive spirit.”

Each morning from December 1 a new post will be added to Bicester Town Council YouTube, website and Facebook page.
