North Oxfordshire MP, Victoria Prentis, has spoken of her support for the recently launched Kickstart Scheme. The Government initiative aims to help young people at risk of unemployment by providing organisations of all sizes funding for six-month job placements.

The opportunities will help young people develop their skills and increase their chances of finding long-term employment in the future. Funding will cover a 25-hour week salary, associated National Insurance and pension contributions, and £1,500 for training and work search preparation. Roles must be created specifically for the scheme in addition to the existing workforce, to ensure young people are supported and prepared for future work opportunities through their specific role.

Following the Government’s announcement of the Kickstart Scheme, Victoria said “The Kickstart Scheme provides a brilliant opportunity for young people to train and progress during this difficult time. I know that some young people are worrying about their long-term employability prospects. My hope is that businesses and organisations across North Oxfordshire will embrace this opportunity to strengthen their own workforces and help young people develop their skills at the same time.”

The scheme is open for organisations to join until December 2021, with participants benefitting until Summer 2022. Further information about the scheme, including details on funding and how to apply, can be found at: https://kickstart.campaign.gov.uk/.
