Everyone needs a little glamour in their lives – and that’s just what’s on the agenda at the Hummingbird Centre’s latest event.
The charity is set to stage a masked ball at Tythe Barn, Launton, near Bicester, who donated the venue for free, on Friday, March 20.
Guests are being urged to get creative with their masks, but the overall aim of the night is to inject some glitz and glamour into people’s lives with dinner, dancing, entertainment and fun.
There will be a performance by Jacqueline Faye, who appeared on television talent show The X-Factor in 2018 and received a ‘yes’ from all four judges, and London auctioneer James Kendling will be looking for the highest bidder as he brings down his hammer of lots of goodies.
Local businesses are being invited to get involved by sponsoring a table for £100 or donating auction prizes – pledges should be made to the Hummingbird by March 1.
The black-tie event will raise funds to ensure the Hummingbird Centre can continue to offer vital services to support children and adults whose lives are affected by cancer.
One of the organisers Diane Mbangwa said: “The first time I heard about the Hummingbird Centre was through my GP in 2015, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
“I immediately thought how awesome and so unquestionably helpful the Hummingbird Centre is for those going through such harsh experiences and I vowed to help out in any way I could.
“As soon as I was back on my feet I did just that.
“We want to make this year’s Hummingbird Fundraising Dinner and Auction – Masked Ball the best yet and would love local people and businesses to get involved.”
Fellow organiser Elizabeth Hughes has been volunteering at the Hummingbird for three years and got involved after her then employer made a donation to the centre, said: “It’s really important to stress that the Hummingbird Centre is run purely on donations and grants, and by volunteers who donate their valuable time. This event will go a long way to keep these essential services running.”
Hummingbird founder Mechelle Harris said: “The Hummingbird Centre could not continue without the support of the local businesses and individuals who have contributed generously over the years – they all help make a real difference in our community.”
