[dropcap type =”circle”]C[/dropcap]hiltern Railways have increased the on-train Wi-Fi data allowance for passengers. The company, one of the first train operators in the UK to provide free Wi-Fi, has increased the data allowance from 75MB to 125MB on its long-distance trains between Birmingham, Oxford and London.
The increase in data allowance will not only improve the service for Chiltern customers but also allow Chiltern to undertake research on how the Wi-Fi is being used to further improve the service and enable Chiltern Railways to assess the ultimate level of provision. The research is being undertaken by the University of the West of England and is supported by RSSB, to share the findings with the rail industry.
With the imminent opening of the line from London Marylebone into Oxford City Centre on the 12th December, this is an added incentive for customers who will find it even easier to work or use the Wi-Fi for personal admin and leisure purposes.
Justin Baines, Commercial Director at Chiltern Railways said: “Free Wi-Fi has been available on our long distance trains for around six years allowing customers to be more productive and make better use of “travel time” during the working day. Raising the data allowance to 125MB enhances our offer and provides even more opportunity for passengers to get things done, whether this be finishing a presentation and checking email during the working day or ordering groceries on the home commute to claim back family time.”
