[dropcap type =”circle”]T[/dropcap]he quality of the air we breathe, and how to improve it, is the subject of a newly-launched council survey.
Cherwell District Council has opened a consultation on ways to improve the district’s air, with a focus on making improvements in the areas which suffer from the poorest air quality.
The survey is available via the below link and anyone who lives, works or travels in the district can participate.
It comes after the approval of the draft Air Quality Action Plan (AQAP) in September by Cherwell’s Executive and invites comments on the measures being considered in the plan. It also provides an opportunity to identify other options to be considered.
Cllr Tony Ilott, Cherwell’s lead member for public protection, said: “As the district’s economy and housing supply grow, we are keen to protect residents’ wellbeing by helping to reduce emissions.
“To implement our action plan, we are looking to leverage the powers and partnerships that are available to the council as effectively as we can. This means using the planning process to promote sustainable transport infrastructure and encouraging the use of public transport.
“This is an important opportunity for residents to comment on how we can best deliver these, to the benefit of the district’s health and environment.”
Proposed in the AQAP are measures to reduce vehicle journeys, promote alternative transport and strengthen local policy to encourage low emission take up and mitigate pollution.
The consultation closes on Sunday, 18 December.
