Embrace the winter and hygge

[dropcap type=”circle”]W[/dropcap]ell Halloween and Bonfire Night are over, and the nights are most definitely drawing in now.

Rather than long for spring and dread the longer evenings, make like the Danes and make the most of the new season with a bit of hygge.

Pronounced hu-gah, hygge this is the Danish method of basically being cosy, warm and comfortable to cope with the dark winter months ahead. Chances are you already doing this, but if not read on for some inspiration.

Creating the right atmosphere and feel to your home is key to getting hygge right, so think warm and inviting, cosy and calm.

Invest in some good simple candles to give rooms an intimate and natural glow, and fill vases with simple fresh flowers and greenery. Accessories need to be soft, simple and cosy and natural fabrics where possible, and not ornate or fussy.

Blankets can be cotton and wool in soft, muted tones and anything else should be beautiful and useful.

Invite friends and family for a simple, hearty autumn supper that can be enjoyed with minimal fuss, and create cosy corners to snooze in with a good book and perhaps the company of a well behaved pet!

Here are a few of our favourite things to get you all hygged-up.
