BICESTER SUPERHERO DAY GOES VIRTUAL

Bicester town Council is hoping to salvage one of its popular summer events by transforming it to a virtual one instead.

In a bid to bring holiday fun to the town’s young people the Superhero day will go online and be streamed live on the council’s Facebook page BTC Events and News on Wednesday, August 5, from 11am.

People are being urged to make their own superhero costume and join the fun – there’s even a prize for the best costume.

The Virtual Superhero Day is organised by Bicester Town Council in association with Healthy Bicester and will bring together storytelling, party fun, games and dress-up.

Templates for superhero costumes will be available for download from the town council’s website and will include real-life heroes such as nurses and doctors.

A host of fun is planned for the day. Cherwell District Council’s Sports Activators have created an early years’ activity pack and pre-recorded sports activities – in dress-up – for people to take part in on the day. There will also be an activity sheet of fun things to do at home.

Jollypop Entertainment will run an interactive party session and staff from Bicester’s Clip ‘n Climb will run a story and sing-a-long session. For older children catch Aaron Williams Entertainer who is running a live juggling and acrobatics workshop, and there will be a cheerleading session from Elite Dance Class.

The council is also urging local talent to sign up for a slot on the day, this could be singers, bands, entertainers, dancers or other.

Mayor Cllr Jason Slaymaker said: “We are so pleased to have been able to bring this event online. The Superhero Day is always one of our most popular events where thousands of young people usually descend on Garth Park for a day of free fun for all the family.

“In a year where we find ourselves doing things differently due to coronavirus restrictions, we have worked hard behind the scenes to transform this years Superhero Day into a virtual event.

“We have lots of fun activities lined-up already, but would love to see some of our local talent top the bill. We have so many talented people in Bicester and we would to give this platform to those people to show-off their skills and be part of this fun day. If you want to take part, please do get in touch.”

There will be 10 Superhero goody bags up for grabs for entering the competition. The goody bags will contain a set of three Superhero moulded crayons from Waddy’s Wax Crayons, plus a hero mask and a colouring in sheet. Please note that crayons and masks will be assorted colours and characters in the bag.
The full timetable will be released on Bicester Town Council’s website nearer the day.
