Radio Horton shortlisted for National Hospital Radio Award

[dropcap type =”circle”]B[/dropcap]anbury’s hospital radio station kick-started 2018 with exciting news following the announcement of a nomination in the Best Special Event category at the prestigious annual National Hospital Radio Awards for its coverage of Fairport’s Cropredy Convention.
The station was delighted to be offered the unique privilege of bringing content and exclusive interviews from one of the country’s most respected folk-festivals, back to its listeners, patients in the Horton General Hospital. Now in its forty-first year, Fairport’s Cropredy Convention saw a variety of performances including headliners, The Divine Comedy, Richard Thompson and Petula Clark.
Radio Horton’s coverage of the weekend took significant planning and preparation and involved a team of volunteers from the station, collaborating to bring a taste of Cropredy to those in hospital and otherwise unable to be there.
Radio Horton volunteer, Lisa Simmons said: “It was a privilege for Radio Horton to have backstage access – a first for the station, which helped give the patients at the hospital a unique insight into the event.”
The Horton General Hospital’s radio station, which is due to celebrate its 54th anniversary in July 2018, is a member of the Hospital Broadcasting Association (HBA), which hosts an annual Conference offering a variety of training and networking opportunities for like-minded hospital radio professionals, and an exquisite black-tie gala dinner which culminates with the National Hospital Radio Awards.
This year, the HBA Annual Conference travels to the DeVere Beaumont Estate, Windsor in neighbouring Berkshire, from 23rd-25th March. Radio Horton previously rose to success in 2015, when the station’s co-founder, Ted Hanson MBE received the prestigious John Whitney Award from the Hospital Broadcasting Association for his services to Radio Horton, and now the station hopes to triumph once again with its entry in the Best Special Event category.
Radio Horton prides itself on broadcasting its diverse range of programming to cater for inpatients and those feeling under the weather.
