Support grows for parking campaigners

[dropcap type =”circle”]R[/dropcap]esidents on the new Langford Estate in Bicester who are campaigning to stop people parking on grass verges have launched a Facebook Page to gather support from people who live in the area and highlight the problem.
Claire Drewett-French and Kelly Sutton are leading the campaign to stop grass verges on Mallards Way from being churned up by motorists who are parking on the estate. They are calling on the council to install barriers to stop people driving over and parking on the grass.
Claire said: “People constantly park on the verges alongside the chicanes on Mallards Way, this has killed the grass, spread mud across the road and is now getting very dangerous. They are even breaking branches from the trees to try and get their cars out of the mud as they are constantly getting stuck, on many occasions having to be pulled out by other cars”.

“People are so annoyed about it and a group of us went to a Cherwell District Council meeting last night to discuss what can be done to stop the problem.”
The council gave the go ahead for double yellow lines to be painted onto the road, but campaigners fear that unless this is policed properly, drivers will ignore the yellow lines.
Claire added: “Yellow lines are fine and will probably be put in in June, but we are now four years down the line with this problem and we feel more needs to be done. Kelly has been out and about putting notices on offending cars and she has received abuse from drivers who think they can do what they like. Local estate agents are supporting us because the problem is putting potential house buyers off because the area looks so bad.
“We need barriers-either wooden posts or logs laid on the grass just to act as a deterrent. We need something physical in place that will stop people from driving onto the grass. If the council does not have the funds to pay for the barriers, then we will fundraise as a community to install them.”
