Bicester designer scoops national award

[dropcap type=”circle”]A[/dropcap] Bicester wedding jewellery designer scooped a prestigious national award, beating off competition from bigger businesses.
Kelly Scully who runs Tantrums and Tiaras won a Highly Commended Award at The British Wedding Awards, a celebration of the UK’s favourite wedding brands and products, voted for and chosen by real brides.
Revealing the very best the wedding industry has to offer, the categories focus on all key aspects of wedding planning, from the dress and accessories, to the venue and stationery.
The British Wedding Awards 2017 drew in over 50,000 votes from British brides who truly believe in the brands that they trusted on their big day.
Tantrums and Tiaras is the passion of designer/director Kelly, who began making jewellery as a child and would sell the odd piece to friends and family. Other things took priority and jewellery making took a back seat until she became ill in 2005 and rediscovered her passion in jewellery making.
She now runs her business from a studio at her home and juggles her designing with a full time job and two children.

Kelly Scully-Designer/Director at Tantrums and Tiaras

Kelly is entirely self-taught and has developed new techniques and ideas throughout. Having become more adept at creating jewellery Kelly branched out into making tiaras and sold one to a local wedding shop, from there Tantrums and Tiaras have grown. In 2016, the business celebrated its 10th birthday.
Kelly said: “My headpieces do not sit in one style or genre as I like to mix it up a bit and go with what I like making. I love pretty little detailing but equally enjoy making the larger statement pieces. At the moment I love using colour in my headpieces, whether it’s changing the crystals, wire or just adding that something extra to give a unique twist. I especially loves special commissions where I gets to convert vintage jewellery into beautiful modern heirlooms to be kept for years to come.”

Although Kelly works full time during the day and has two young children, she works full time on the business too making headpieces nearly every night when the children have gone to bed. Kelly added: “Some people like to knit while watching the telly and relax, for me, I’m not happy unless I’ve got some wire or beads in my hands!”
Kelly is busy creating a new collection of headpieces at the moment, a large percentage of which will be exclusive one off designs.
