Car park upgrades announced

[dropcap type =”circle”]C[/dropcap]ar parks around the district will be getting upgrades in the final fortnight of February as the council continues its programme of scheduled maintenance.
The works were approved and budgeted for by Cherwell District Council last year and include relining, some surface work as well as repairs to kerbs and drainage channels.
The council is now advising drivers of the temporary closures that will be put in place while the improvements are undertaken.
Cllr George Reynolds, Cherwell’s deputy leader, said: “While we maintain and repair our car parks all year round, it is important that we undertake routine works such as relining every couple of years to ensure we are offering drivers the best service we can.
“We are grateful for the co-operation that people are showing during this programme of works. As far as possible, we have worked to minimise disruption by timetabling closures to avoid the busiest times.”
The works will commence on Saturday, 18 February at North Bar East Banbury. The car park will close at 5pm to complete relining work and it will reopen by 6pm on Sunday, 19.
The Curtis Place short stay car park in Kidlington will also close for relining works on Saturday 18 at 5pm. It will reopen on Sunday, 19 by 6pm.
The Market Square car park in Bicester will close for surface works and relining at 5pm on Monday, 20 February and reopen by 6pm on Wednesday, 22.
The Claremont car park in Bicester will close for drainage channel repairs at 5pm on Wednesday, 22 February. It will reopen by 6pm on Thursday, 23.
The Chapel Brook car park in Bicester will close for kerb repairs at 5pm on Thursday, 23 February and will reopen by 6pm on Thursday, 24. Access for residents will remain available whilst the works are ongoing.
On Sunday, 26 February, relining works will be carried out at the Bridge Street taxi rank in Banbury.
All work will be weather dependent. Wherever possible, signs will be displayed at entrances to the affected car parks and at the ticket machines one week prior to the closures to inform users. Residents and businesses in the direct vicinity will also be notified with a letter.
Details of the closures and alternative car parks in the district will be displayed on the council’s website at http://www.cherwell.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=11924
